APG and APG of Chesapeake are thrilled to announce the recent hire of Melchor Fernandez Garcia as Chief Scientist!
Melchor has many years of experience within the industry as a Research and Development Engineer with EXIDE Technologies in his hometown of Madrid, Spain. He earned his degree as a Chemical Engineer specializing in Industrial Chemistry from Madrid University.
Much of Melchor’s career has been devoted to the development of VRLA (Valve-Regulated Lead Acid) technology for SLI, Cycling, and Standby applications. More recently (beginning in 2009) he began engaging in the development of AGM/EFB lead-acid batteries for micro-hybrid application, focusing specifically on cycling requirements as well as the necessary modifications to carbon, graphite and negative expander in the paste mix for optimal performance. He was the leader on the Advanced Lead-Acid Battery Consortium’s (ALABC) Project S1315 to evaluate new carbons and graphites for optimal performance in start-stop batteries.
As APG’s Chief Scientist, Melchor will provide technical expertise and expert recommendations on the development and application of all TEXEX-brand negative expanders. His contribution to APG’s sales and technical support efforts will include direct correspondence with customers, visits to customer facilities, attendance at trade shows and conventions, and the publishing of technical papers and presentations.
Melchor will work closely with Carlos Barreneche, our Chief Technical Officer, on new expander formulations and proper application techniques, and will provide all of APG’s customers with answers to any of their expander-related questions. Additionally, he will be taking the lead on new research and development projects on behalf of APG and bolstering APG’s on-site laboratories for more extensive product evaluation.
