And now for the second installment of The Vineyard View…
Janet and Ed had owned and operated a small vineyard in the North Georgia hills from 1996 to 2002. It was a learning experience. With daughter Stephanie at the University of Virginia and son Lee accepted as a first year student (Ed had graduated from UVA during the prior century) we decided to sell the Georgia vineyard and establish a real vineyard and winery in Virginia. Lovingston Winery was created in 2002, planted in 2003 with Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and winery built and first vintage bottled in 2005. Since then we have added South Africa’s own Pinotage (thanks to our South African winemaker Riaan Rossouw), Petit Manseng, Petit Verdot, Seyval Blanc, Chambourcin, Chardonnay and a few experimentals. We’ve even developed a mutation of Merlot, calling it Merlot Gris.
Our reputation as a quality wine producer has continued to grow with very good marks from Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast. Our wines are now stocked in over 200 retail establishments (www.lovingstonwinery.com).
